What does the Lotus flower mean and what’s the meaning of the swirl right above the lotus? The lotus in the Unalome symbol (the swirl at the top of the design) denotes enlightenment and freedom. The lines within the Unalome represents our challenges in life as we push through the mud and muck in order to finally blossom and be the magnificent creation we were created to be.
Because the lotus rises from the mud without strains, they are often viewed as a symbol of purity. Since they return to the murky water each evening and open their blooms at the break of day, lotus flowers are also symbols of strength, resilience and rebirth.
